Buttercream frosting is an effortless way to decorate and add life to almost all desserts. Be it a birthday cake or muffins or cupcakes, buttercream frosting is an essential element in the sweet treats we eat.

It is typically made with butter and powdered sugar. Vanilla extract and food colours can be added to give an extra flavour and a pop of colour. The fluffy frosting is as good to taste as to look at.

There are many types of buttercream frostings like Americal buttercream, Italian meringue buttercream and Swiss meringue buttercream. This recipe is for the American buttercream. It is the simplest to make and can be flavored with with a lot of things like melted chocolate, curds, extracts and spices. This one has an ivory colour, is relatively thicker and easier to pipe and forms a thin crust when exposed to air. It is sweet and perfect to ice a classic white cake. Here is a simple recipe.
