Serves 2
  • all purpose flour1 cup
  • whole wheat flour1 cup
  • semolina2 tablespoon
  • black pepper1 Pinch
  • chana dal2 grams
  • green chilles1 teaspoon
  • curry leaves5 pieces
  • kashmiri mirch powder1 teaspoon
  • cumin powder1/2 teaspoon
  • garam masala1/2 teaspoon
  • onion As required
  • oil As required
  • water As required
  • salt As required
  • carom seeds1 teaspoon
  • cumin seeds2 teaspoon
  • hot oil2 tablespoon
  • green chutney1 tablespoon
  • tamarind chutney1 grams


Step 1

In a large mixing bowl take wheat flour, maida, Semolina, black pepper, carom seeds, cumin seeds, & salt.

Now pour hot oil over the flour, this helps to make crispy pakwan.

Crumble the oil with dough well, rub with your hands.

Now add water slowly and start to knead the dough. Knead to a slightly stiff dough.

Pinch a ball sized dough and flatten. Grease it will oil slightly and roll slightly thick as for paratha, this prevents from sticking of dough to rolling pin.

With the help of cookie cutter cut into round shape.

Prick the pakwan with a fork to prevent puffing up while frying.

Fry the pakwan till they turn golden brown and crisp. It takes around 4 minutes.

Drain off on to a kitchen paper to remove excess oil.

In a pressure cooker cook chana dal with tomato along with water for 5 whistles. Once the pressure settles down, open the cooker and check the dal has cooked well yet not mushy.

In a tadka pan heat ghee and add cumin seeds, green chilli , Red chilli powder and few curry leaves.

Add the tadka to the cooked Dal, add cumin powder, garam masala, chat masala, & amchur. Mix the spices with the dal. Furthermore, add chopped onion, green chutney & tamarind chutney.
