While we are discussing cheesecakes, it is important to mention kalakand from India.

A traditional dessert, kalakand is a milk-based sweet that can be enjoyed with a glass of warm milk. The beauty of this dessert rests entirely in its grainy texture. It is easy to make at home, and you can follow this recipe to enjoy it with family and friends.


Serves 8
  • paneer200 grams
  • sugar4 tablespoon
  • cardamom powder1/4 teaspoon
  • saffron8 strands
  • pistachios10 Numbers
  • full cream milk1 litre
  • ghee As required


Step 1

Break the paneer into chunks and grate it. In a pan, boil the full-fat milk. Keep stirring it continuously on a high flame.

As it becomes a little thicker, add sugar and cardamom powder while stirring it continuously. Turn the flame to low and add grated paneer to it. Let it cook for some time. Switch the flame back to high and keep stirring it continuously. Once the mixture starts to leave the sides of the pan, turn the flame off.

Line a tin with butter paper. Grease it with some ghee. Add the prepared mixture to it and let it set for two hours before popping it into the refrigerator to chill for some time.

After a few hours, take it out of the fridge, remove the butter paper carefully and cut the mixture into pieces using a knife. Garnish with saffron strands and pistachios. Your delicious homemade kalakand is ready to be served.
