Sweet Paniyaram- How to make Sweet Paniyaram

Crisp, soft and porous, sweet paniyaram or appam is a speciality at festivals in Tamil Nadu. And, throughout South India, different versions of it are available. In Karnataka, it is called yeriyappa. And, Keralites call it vellayappam, vellappam, palappam or kallappam. Easy to cook, this instant snack is vegan and gluten-free. Both children and adults can enjoy the preparation. All you need to make these delicious sweet dumplings is dosa batter, banana and powdered jaggery. The sweetness in paniyaram is not overpowering and makes it a viable option for breakfast.


Serves 6
  • dosa batter1 cup
  • banana1 Numbers
  • jaggery2 tablespoon
  • cardamom powder1/2 teaspoon
  • salt1/2 teaspoon
  • ghee As required


Step 1

Mash the banana along with jaggery and add elaichi powder and salt. Make a nice mixture.

Add this mixture to the dosa batter. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes.

Grease the paniyaram pan with some ghee. Once it is hot, Pour the mixture into the pan.

Cook the paniyaram well on both the sides until it is cooked and has a nice golden colour. Your sweet paniyaram is ready to be served.
