Acai berries, best known for the smoothie bowl recipe, were made recently extremely famous by lifestyle YouTubers, especially, American vloggers. But what else do we know about Acai? These wild berries are rich in nutrients and provide various health benefits. Also, they taste great!



What is Acai?

Acai pronounced as ‘ah-sigh-EE’, are wild berries native to South American rainforests. They are grape-like fruits harvested from Acai palm trees.

These berries have a deep reddish-purple colour and they are one to two cm in diameter. Tasting Acai is like having chocolate and berries together. Although it does have a metallic aftertaste.

There are many ways to consume acai. Many commercial options of juices and smoothies with acai as an ingredient are available in the market. These berries can be used as frozen acai puree to make acai bowls. Another method is to add acai powder to oats, cereal or homemade granola bars. Even jam can be made out of these berries.
