History of the oldest whisky

According to the reports, a resident trustee at Blair Castle who checked out this forgotton stash discovered around 40 bottles of whisky which are believed to have been distilled back in 1833 and bottled in 1841. This liquid elixir has been considered an extraordinary and a rare find in the history of Scotch whisky. While the label doesn’t name a distillery, which also adds to the castle’s royal past.

These bottles sat quietly in the quaint castle, untouched by time, until a chance of discovery changed everything. What makes the find even more fascinating and interesting is that back in 1844, just 3 years after the whisky was bottled, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert visited Blair Castle and the queen herself enjoyed this, making each bottle not just a drink, but a delightful link to the history.
Technically, the whisky was stored perfectly, and it was retrieved and headed to auction. And in this case, it’s important to know that conditions were nearly perfect, which is cool, stable, and dark. This has preserved the liquid’s integrity remarkably well, even after all these years.

Angus MacRaild, an expert in vintage whiskies, sampled the liquid and described it as containing freshness, weight and even medicinal qualities- a promising profile for a whisky nearly 200 years old. Notably, it lacks peat, a signature essence in many scotches, hinting at a gentle spirit with a refined flavour profile that would appeal to Victorian sensibilities.
Two dozen of these rare bottles will be auctioned by Perth-based whisky auctioneer, with estimates placing each bottle at £10000. While that figure may sound a bit steep in comparison to other Macallan whiskies from the 20th century, often ten times as much.
While the label may not boast a familiar name or flashy age statement, this whisky represents something rarest of rare. With the whisky that survived nearly 200 years in silence. Many fortunate collectors also got a chance to treasure this whisky as well.
