The Jharkhand Highway Eatery Serving Authentic Wood-Fired Pizza
Located 25 kilometres from Ranchi, Amore Mio is a rural eatery where local women craft authentic Italian wood-fired pizzas using fresh, locally sourced ingredients and traditional techniques.
Tucked away in the rural landscapes of Bayangdih-Jaria, approximately 25 kilometres from Ranchi, a small, unassuming eatery has become an unlikely destination for pizza enthusiasts. Known as Amore Mio—which translates to "My Love"—the restaurant has gained attention for serving authentic, wood-fired Italian pizzas in a region better known for its traditional local cuisine.
The origins of the eatery date back several years to the arrival of an Italian couple, Father Carlo and Madame Hayari, who established a school in the village for missionary work. When the school lacked a canteen, Father Carlo began constructing a traditional oven using clay, brick, and wood to prepare meals. Before departing, the couple shared their pizza-making techniques with the local community, teaching them how to operate the oven and prepare authentic Italian pies.
A Community-Led Culinary Revival
While the initial lessons were well-received, the interest in maintaining the pizza joint waned among the locals after the couple left. The project remained dormant for a period until a group of tribal youth recognized the potential of the venture and decided to revive it in 2014. Since then, the restaurant has evolved into a vital source of employment for the local community, drawing visitors from surrounding villages, Ranchi, and tourists traveling across the country. The enduring appeal of Amore Mio lies in its commitment to natural, fresh ingredients. Eschewing packaged or highly processed components, the kitchen relies on locally sourced cheese and fresh produce, including tomatoes and bell peppers, harvested from nearby farms. This emphasis on farm-to-table sourcing is what many patrons credit for the distinct, natural flavour profile of the pizzas, setting them apart from more conventional commercial offerings found in urban markets.
