Remembering Nana Patekar’s Clever Kitchen Hack for the Perfect Omelette
Beyond his celebrated acting career, the late Nana Patekar was a passionate home cook. We revisit a viral video where he shared a simple, effective technique for flipping an omelette without breaking it.
The late veteran actor Nana Patekar was widely admired for his craft, but he also harbored a deep, personal passion for cooking. Known for his willingness to prepare meals for film crews and large groups, Patekar often brought a sense of care and community to the kitchen. A memorable glimpse into this side of his life was captured in a video shared last year by actor and food blogger Ashish Vidyarthi, which highlighted a clever, practical hack for flipping an omelette without the risk of it breaking.
In the footage, Vidyarthi observes Patekar at the stove, initially surprised by an unconventional approach to the task. Rather than attempting a risky flip in the air with a spatula, Patekar demonstrates a safer method using a plate. By sliding the omelette onto a plate with the cooked side down and then inverting the plate back over the pan, he successfully transfers the egg with the uncooked side facing down. This simple maneuver ensures the omelette remains intact, a solution Patekar developed after considering how easily delicate foods can fall apart during traditional flipping.
