Buttercream frosting is an effortless way to decorate and add life to almost all desserts. Be it a birthday cake or muffins or cupcakes, buttercream frosting is an essential element in the sweet treats we eat. It is typically made with butter and powdered sugar. Vanilla extract and food colours can be added to give an extra flavour and a pop of colour. The fluffy frosting is as good to taste as to look at. This recipe is for American buttercream. It is the simplest to make and can be flavoured with a lot of things like melted chocolate, curds, extracts and spices. This one has an ivory colour, is relatively thicker and easier to pipe and forms a thin crust when exposed to air. It is sweet and perfect to ice a classic white cake. Here is a simple recipe.
butter
100 grams
powdered sugar
200 grams
vanilla essence

In a bowl, take the soft room temperature butter. The butter should be pliable; not runny or hard.
Blend the butter with a hand blender till it's perfectly smooth and lump-free.
Sieve the powdered sugar into the bowl. The ratio of butter to sugar by weight has to be 1:2.
