Kaala mutton: Maharashtrian style black mutton curry

Kaala mutton is a flavourful preparation that gets its distinct flavour and dark colour from charred onion and coconut base. Serve this aromatic dish with steamed white rice, bhakri or roti.


Ingredients

  • mutton

    500 grams

  • green chilles

    4 piece

  • garlic

    12 cloves

  • ginger

    1 small

  • coriander leaves

    1 cup

  • curd

    1/2 cup

  • salt

    As required

  • onion

    3 medium

  • coconut

    1 grams

  • oil

    2 tablespoon

  • water

    4 cup

  • ghee

    2 tablespoon

  • red chilli powder

    1 tablespoon

  • garam masala

    1 tablespoon

  • lemon juice

    1/2 medium

  • coriander leaves

    1/4 cup

  • garlic powder

    1/2 teaspoon

  • onion powder

    1/2 teaspoon

Preparation

Step 1

Put chillies, garlic, ginger, and coriander leaves in a grinder without adding any water. Grind this into a coarse masala.

Step 2

In a bowl, mix mutton pieces with the freshly ground masala, dahi, turmeric and salt. Let it marinate for two hours.

Step 3

Heat oil in a pressure cooker and fry the marinated mutton for 3-4 minutes.
