Hyderabad Restaurant Gains Attention for Serving Jhal Muri on Edible Paper

A restaurant in Hyderabad has captured social media attention by reimagining a beloved street food staple. Anaganaga, located in the Jubilee Hills area, is serving the traditional Kolkata snack Jhal Muri with a distinct culinary twist: the paper used to present the dish is entirely edible. A video shared by a content creator on Instagram recently highlighted the experience, showing the snack being prepared on the sheet before the creator consumes the paper along with the puffed rice mixture, describing the combination as a pleasant surprise.

The innovation has sparked curiosity among viewers, as the restaurant aims to blend familiar regional flavors with unconventional presentation methods. While Jhal Muri is traditionally a quick, portable snack, this version encourages diners to eat the serving vessel itself, adding a novel texture and element of surprise to the classic recipe.

A Menu Focused on Creative Reinterpretation

Anaganaga primarily focuses on Telugu cuisine while incorporating diverse influences from across India. The restaurant’s approach centers on transforming standard dishes into modern iterations. This philosophy is evident throughout their menu, which features items like dosa waffles paired with an avocado dip and a millet salad seasoned with yoghurt, mango pickle oil, and sweet tamarind.

The kitchen also experiments with traditional snack formats. For instance, the menu includes a crispy pumpkin leaf snack topped with onion chutney, serving as a creative alternative to the conventional masala papad. Other notable items include churros accompanied by green, ginger, and spicy red chilli chutneys, as well as a bottle gourd salad tossed with raw mango, coriander sauce, and puffed rice. The restaurant also serves Muntha Masala—a popular beach snack originating from Visakhapatnam—presented in an edible cone crafted from potato starch, further demonstrating their commitment to inventive, waste-conscious, or interactive dining experiences.
