There are many types of buttercream frostings like Americal buttercream, Italian meringue buttercream and Swiss meringue buttercream. This recipe is for the American buttercream. It is the simplest to make and can be flavored with with a lot of things like melted chocolate, curds, extracts and spices. This one has an ivory colour, is relatively thicker and easier to pipe and forms a thin crust when exposed to air. It is sweet and perfect to ice a classic white cake. Here is a simple recipe.
