How to make Falafel at home

Falafel recipe with steps: A Middle-Eastern delicacy, Falafel is a fried snack with chickpea as the main ingredient. Very commonly served with pita bread, these deep-fried, chickpea stuffed balls are an explosion of flavour. There are many ways to tweak this falafel recipe by adding spices and fresh herbs of your choice. Here's how you can make falafel at home.


Ingredients

  • chickpea2 cup
  • onion1/2 cup
  • coriander leaves1 bunch
  • garlic5 cloves
  • cumin powder1 teaspoon
  • baking soda1 Pinch
  • red chilli powder1 teaspoon
  • gram flour2 tablespoon
  • salt As required
  • oil As required

Preparation

Step 1

Take soaked chickpeas in a grinder. Grind it with little water. You don't need a puree like consistency. A coarse mix is fine.

To it now add sliced onions, coriander leaves, garlic, cumin powder, baking soda, red chilli powder, salt and gram flour. Grind together till the mix has a thick dough like texture.

Make small balls out of the chickpeas mixture & then flatten them using your palms.

Now, heat oil in a kadhai over medium flame. When the oil is hot enough, add the flattened patties to it. Fry until they are golden-brown in colour.

Once done, place the fried patties on a plate lined with absorbent paper to soak up the excess oil. Serve hot with a dip of your choice.
