This upma recipe using sama rice has a taste very similar to the regular rava upma. But it offers a lot more nutrients than the regular one. As there is a vast scope of adding more vegetables, the mix of vegetables in sama rice upma tastes better. It is a simple and light breakfast. It may keep you light throughout the day. Ingredients

Serves 2
  • oil1/2 teaspoon
  • mustard seeds1/2 teaspoon
  • ginger1 teaspoon
  • onion1 Numbers
  • curry leaves6 Numbers
  • salt1/4 teaspoon
  • sama rice1/2 cup
  • water1 cup
  • coconut1/2 cup
  • ghee1 teaspoon

Preparation

Step 1

Add ½ teaspoon oil to the pan and add the mustard seeds after the oil is warm.

Add a medium-sized chopped onion to the pan and saute well until it turns translucent. Add salt and the curry leaves at this point.

Add the washed sama rice to the onion and roast for a while. Add one cup of water. Cover and cook it on medium flame until the rice absorbs all the water in the utensil.

Turn the flame off and add the grated coconut. Add a spoonful of ghee on top. The healthy and tasty sama rice upma is ready to be eaten.
