Lohri special: Til Ki Chikki recipe

Lohri, the festival of bonfires, is here. The winter festival is marked with some yummy goodies with til or sesame. One such festive favourite is Til Chikki. This toothsome treat is loved by everyone and is very easy to prepare. Sesame and jaggery, the two main ingredients in this chikki, are great winter foods that provide energy and heat in the cold months. Here's a recipe to make this Til Chikki.


Ingredients

Serves 4
  • sesame seeds1 cup
  • dried coconut slices1/4 cup
  • ghee2 tablespoon
  • jaggery1 cup
  • sugar1 teaspoon
  • cardamom powder1 teaspoon
  • peanuts1/4 cup

Preparation

Step 1

Lightly toast a cup of white sesame seeds. Do not brown or burn them. Set aside.

Toast coconut slices. Set aside.

Add ghee to a pan and mix the jaggery into it.

The jaggery should melt into a treacle-like consistency. Add a teaspoon of sugar.

To check if the jaggery is ready, put a few drops into cold water. If it forms a hard ball, the jaggery syrup is ready.

Add cardamom powder to the jaggery and stir.

Add peanuts to the jaggery, followed by toasted coconut slices and sesame. Mix well.

Spread the mixture on a flat pan and pat it till its even.

Cut into pieces. Let it set for an hour. Serve.
